Early elections were called in the United Kingdom in the summer of 2024. The Indian parliamentary election began the same month. The European Union voted in July. The United States elected its President of the next four years in November 2024.
Few years in our lifetimes will be as decisive for democracy as 2024. And at the heart of it lies a deceptively simple question: what really is the vote?
"The vote is a moral universe," said Dr. Aishwary Kumar in the run-up to an Instagram Live dialogue on Monday, May 27. "It concentrates in itself the democratic promise and peril. What we want to investigate is not the modalities and structures of electoral politics, but the risks of democracy they obscure."
